Now that you know what to wear and how to get all dolled up this spring, I think it’s about time you did something with that hair. The top two trends this spring for hair are actually mom’s best friends–easy “up dos” that don’t fall into “up don’ts” in two minutes.

Bohemian Ballerina Bun: Gathering inspiration from your dancing daughter, the ballerina bun is twirling around this season. And forgoing the hours of rehearsal, this one starts off tired looking.

Gather blow dried hair tightly to form a ponytail at the back of the crown of the head and secure with a ponytail holder, keeping all the sides flat. Holding hair at the end of the ponytail, twist the hair firmly in one direction to form a knot into a spiral. Secure with bobby pins. Now, channel your inner 8-year-old and mess up the sides a bit.

Messy Side Braid: Funny how the last thing you want on your daughter is a messy braid. And this is the first thing on the runways this spring.

Use a texturizing wax or spray to give the strands a bit more “grasp” with each other. After creating a deep side part, section off layers around the face starting from the back of the hair. Braid the back section at an angle so that it sweeps from one side of the nape to the other. Gently break up the braid by using your fingers to separate the heart-shaped sections. Lightly tease the front sections to create the desired effect framing the face. Lightly spray with hair spray to hold in place.

Both of these hair-dos certainly have an element of shabby chic. To create them, you could probably just ask your little girl. If she’s like mine, she has cornered the market on mess tress.
