Anja Busse was just 11 years old when she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. After her diagnosis she decided that she wanted her American Girl dolls to be able to look just like her, so she started a Change.Org petition to ask the doll makers to include an insulin and diabetic kit for purchase for their dolls. Stating “I have two American Girl dolls, but there’s no diabetic supplies so they look just like me…. I want my doll to be just like me,” Anja began a petition that has amassed 4,335 supporters.

Anja wrote on her petition that “I want to have diabetic accessories for my American Girl doll so she is just like me. I just want everyone to feel good about themselves no matter if they have something “wrong with them”. Whether they have a disability, blindness, deaf, diabetes, and so much more! It’s important to feel good about yourself!”

Two years later Anja is counting a victory because as of January 1st, 2016, American Girl is now selling diabetic care kits for their dolls!
