While I think that this is a FAB idea, I know there are going to be a lot of parents that are going to be irked by this. There’s a new report that says Applebee’s will no longer be serving soda to children to assist parents in helping their children make healthier choices about the things they eat and drink.
According to Yahoo Parenting, while water, juice and milk will still be available, soda will no longer by an option on children’s menus and placements. And while it will still be available, it will only be served by special request.
Here’s a little more:
Why is the bubbly stuff so harmful to kids’ health? “Soda and other sugar drinks promote diabetes, obesity, tooth decay, and even heart disease, and a kids’ menu is no place for disease-promoting drinks,” Jessica Almy, senior nutrition policy counsel at CSPI, said in the press release. “Kudos to Applebee’s for taking this important step to promote children’s health. Other sit-down chains such as Chili’s should follow Applebee’s lead.”
Again, I think this is a great idea. I personally don’t allow my children to drink soda so this isn’t going to change how we dine out in anyway, but it’s great to see a chain restaurant like Applebee’s making a step in the right direction.
