Alison Sweeney

We asked Days of Our Lives star Alison Sweeney about the first year of Motherhood and how she kept her marriage HOT!
I have never loved my husband more than when I watched him hold our son for the first time. Every time I look at Ben, I see my husband in him, and it's such an overwhelming joy for me. Sorry - I'd better

explain myself - I'm not usually a sappy or cheesy person. In fact, my friends would say I'm
never sappy or cheesy. But when it comes to my son, Ben, I can't seem to help myself. He really is the best thing that's ever happened to me! Dave, my husband, and I can't get enough - we'll go out on a date and even in the middle of an adult conversation, one of us will do our 'Ben Face.' See, Ben has this funny expression he does whenever he sees something interesting - his eyes get all big, and he puckers his mouth like he's blowing on something that's hot. It's really cute, and (besides his big ear-to-ear grin) it's my favorite expression. It's so
him .
My husband and I both work really long hours during the week, and sometimes even the weekends. It's tough on us because we don't always get enough Ben-time during the week. But Dave is an expert mini-vacation planner! You don't have to leave town to have a vacation! We plan day trips or afternoon activities for the three of us on our days off, that really do feel like a get-a-way. It's not always easy to get motivated to go out and do something after a long work-week, but as far as we're concerned the effort is always worth it.
We were walking with Ben down State Street in Santa Barbara, and there was a man with lots of snakes on the sidewalk. He had a huge boa wrapped around his shoulders, and there were a ton of little kids all gathered around. I have a hilarious picture of me holding Ben while he is looking sideways at the man with the snakes - very suspicious. It cracks me up every time I look at it!
It's the little adventures like this and the priceless stories we get from introducing Ben to new things that keeps our marriage exiting and fun. I credit Dave with all the ingenuity too... he's always coming up with something exciting for us to do together. We've been to fairs, air shows (lots of super cool planes to see up close!) and the beach.
I think the key for keeping our relationship fun and sexy, is that we both commit the energy and effort toward doing things as a family. Believe me, I know how exhausting it is to be a parent - sometimes, all you want to do after a long day is sit on the sofa and watch Lost! Frankly, that's a great way to spend the evening - I'll cook a yummy dinner, and Dave and I will sit on the sofa for a night of
Survivor and
The Apprentice .
My point (ha ha, yes, I do have one)is that in my opinion, doing things together as a family and as a couple is a great way to keep the marriage alive and healthy. It doesn't have to be all the time but making the effort definitely pays off.
