Maddy and Me.
I have always loved kids, and for as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a mother. At 18, I was told that due to health problems I may not ever be able to have children. I was beyond devastated. Cut to….
3 years later, living in Hawaii, and working on Baywatch. The impossible became possible. I was pregnant!!
Madison’s name means “Gift from God”. For truly that’s what she is…my miracle baby. She was born healthy and strong in 2000, I was 22, my lucky number. To say it changed my life forever still somehow seems an understatement. That was the beginning of understanding that as much as I was here to show and teach her…she would equally show and teach me. Having Madison in my life taught me so much about myself, love and what’s important in life. It’s funny how it simplifies things and yet shows you the deep complexities of life at the same time. Never have I experienced such joy, such strength and such purpose in life.
My favorite thing about being a mom is that no one can take that away from me. I will always be a mother. No matter where I go or what I do- eternally Madison is part of who I am.
Even now thinking about this makes me cry. Is there anything that touches us deeper than our children…I can’t imagine so. For me Madison is my “Little Delight” (Delight was my great grand mother’s real name and see…it must run in the family :))
Smell the Roses
I love flowers, so does Maddy. When she was first learning to walk we would go through the neighborhood picking wild flowers. We would talk about how beautiful they were, what colors they were, their names…then one day I saw her looking at me curiously every time I would put a flower to my nose. She didn’t know what I was doing. So I proceeded to teach her how to “smell the roses”. It ain’t that easy folks! The words inhale and exhale don’t have much meaning at this point. For the next few months everytime I would give Maddy a flower, she would smile, put it to her nose and blow snot all over it!! Some laughs last forever…WRITE THEM DOWN!!!
