The Chairman & his lovely wife, Mr. & Mrs. Johnston of The Boys & Girls Club Conejo Valley, invited us to the  10th Annual “Stand up for the Kids” gala event at the Four Seasons Westlake Village… “The mission of StandUp For Kids is ending the cycle of youth homelessness” which is perfectly paired with The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America which is to “enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” The event honored humanitarian Paul N. Hopkins, who is the organization’s main fundraiser.

As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a group of children welcoming us to the event. It was such a delight to see their warm smiles.

The room was filled with 600 guests.  What a beautiful crowd of generous people to support children of working parents & single parent families. We were so fortunate to be part of such a great cause and felt even more special sitting at the Chairman’s table.

Bob Eubanks was the Master of Ceremonies and did such a wonderful job entertaining us with jokes & telling special stories. The items to be auctioned included 60 outstanding bottles of wine such as the prized Opus One, a Maui trip for Two at the Four

Seasons, Laker game Season tickets, a Golf Trip via Private Jet, a puppy (yes a Shih Tzu puppy was housed under this massive white tent).

Inside waiters walked around enticing each guest with hors d’oeuvres, champagne & spirits. A West African drum call by Malik & the Futa Toro Drummers announced the celebration. The doors opened up to a glamorously decorated room. Sparkling chandeliers adorned the ballroom ceiling, silver sequined table clothes, votive candles, gray napkins, white phalaenopsis orchids, white roses & white hydrangeas in custom made silver wood boxes lavishly dressed the dining tables.

Our meal was exquisite, Bib lettuce with caramelized pear salad, petit filet with Béarnaise sauce & honey baked apples wrapped in cinnamon phyllo. The children’s Jazz band & choir delightfully entertained us.

The auction was now on its way as our little handheld devices started to rattle.  The centerpieces were being auctioned and Antonio made a bid knowing how much was I admiring them. The puppy, Laker Season Tickets, Private Jet Golf Trip, the Trip for Two to Maui all auctioned and sold immediately to the highest bidder. One by one, each item presented were being auctioned & sold. Slowly the night winded down and a silent donation of one million dollars came through ending the night with a charity explosion. We won our centerpiece, His & Hers Spa slipped away from us but we managed to win a five-foot teddy bear so graciously given to us won by Nonna Yvonne & Papa George for our sweet baby boy. What an unforgettable evening. To be part of, if only for one night, such an incredible foundation will forever be engraved on our hearts.
