Is It Ever OK To Ask For Cash Instead Of A Gift For A Child’s Birthday Party?

Birthday parties are a touchy subject with some people. There are those that prefer to invite anyone and everyone, often with the fear of excluding someone, and then those people (like me) who dread planning them and feel they're all a bit 'too much.'Chances are you're child has already begun to bring those birthday party invites home from school, excitedly talking about attending the first of what will be many parties this year. But what would you think if the invite requested you simply bring cash instead of a gift? Would you be offended?
