Having a brother or sister close in age usually means that person is your first best friend. He or she is also your first partner-in-crime, your first confidante, and the first person you’ve put your trust in as well as the first person you probably got into a heated battle with. They’ve been there for the good, the great, the bad and the downright ugly.

And now there’s a new report that says there are great benefits to having a sibling, or even multiple siblings, in your life as they help shape your personality and even your future. And while most of it is pretty positive, there are some downsides, too. Here’s what you need to know.
