Here’s a little story for you: about a year ago my husband thought it would be a good idea to set up two “work stations” for our children with old desktop parts he put together. We initially wanted our children to use their computers for school work, but one thing led to another and before we knew it they were spending their Saturday mornings watching YouTube videos of kids opening a dozen surprise eggs.
The one thing I hated about the “work stations” is that my children would act like zombies and when their time on the computers were up, they would get crazy angry at me. It didn’t take me long to pull the plug on their screens and take their keyboards away as I couldn’t stand seeing them indoors when the weather was so nice outside. And let me tell you, we went from making one of the worst parenting mistakes to one of our best because our kids haven’t asked for their computers back simply because they’ve been too busy playing outside to care. And now, a new video that is making the social media rounds is encouraging kids to play outdoors – all day and everyday.
Unlike Americans, Europeans don’t view recess as a waste of time.
