If you are a woman or an individual who has ever happened to be pregnant, chances are you have had someone jokingly accuse you of trying to steal a basketball at some point. It’s like the bad pregnancy joke that never ends. You’ll just be casually going by, trying to get through another day of growing a human being and hoping your shirt isn’t riding up your stomach (again), when some jokester who just can’t help him/her self will call out:
“Whatcha got under there? You trying to steal a basketball?!” followed by hearty laughter like it’s the most clever and original joke of all time. And you have to force a chuckle and act like you haven’t heard that very joke ten millions times already.
But still. At the end of the day, the whole basketball-in-your-belly thing is a joke. A joke. Not meant to actually imply that you are literally trying to steal a basketball under your shirt. Although I did hear of a gym teacher who really did accuse a student of that, but that’s a different story for a different day. The point is, we all know it’s a joke to accuse pregnant women of stealing stuff under their shirt.
Except this story is definitely not a joke.
A woman was accused of trying to shoplift from the store and hiding things under her shirt… but she was just pregnant.
