Isabelle Renaud was pregnant with her second child when her common-law husband, David Sinclair, woke one night and told her he was having trouble breathing.
An hour and a half later, Sinclair had died, and Renaud found herself, amid her grief, fighting for the right to give her daughter Sinclair’s last name. She’s hoping her fight will change the law for future cases, saving another new mother from having to go through the pain she went through.
