By now, I’m sure everyone has heard of the horrible atrocities that happened in Paris on Friday night. Over 130 people have died with several hundreds more injured after six bombs exploded all throughout Paris, including at a soccer stadium, a concert hall, a restaurant and a bar. Terrorist group ISIS has since claimed responsibility for the attack. The would has been in mourning with many of us showing our solidarity with France during this very difficult period.
And while I’m sure a lot of us are glued to our computer screens and televisions as we watch to see what could happen next, many celebrities have voiced their opinions and concern. Chart topper Madonna shared a heartfelt speech during her concert in Stockholm, which she has been both applauded and criticized for by both her fans and critics alike.
She started off her speech by saying, “I feel torn. Like, why am I up here dancing and having fun when people are crying over the loss of their loved ones,” before adding in tears, “However, that is exactly what these people want to do. They want to shut us up. They want to silence us. And we won’t let them. We will never let them!”
But then she seemed to change her tone by saying, “There are people who have no respect for human life, and there are people that do atrocious, degrading and unforgivable things to other human beings, but we will never ever, ever change this world that we live in if we do not change ourselves, if we do not change the way that we treat one another on a daily basis.”
Madonna then misguidedly added, “We must start treating every human being with dignity and respect, and this the only thing that will change the world… Only love will change the world, but it’s very hard to love unconditionally, and it’s very hard to love that which we do not understand or that which is different than we are, but we have to or this will go on and on forever.”
