Sipping peppermint tea is a
tried-and-true cure, but the best way to treat a stomachache is to keep it from
happening in the first place.

First, say no to possible belly-bloaters, such as chewing gum and sipping drinks through a straw (both of which draw excess air into your stomach), and carbonated beverages (which fill it with gas). Avoid overloading on sugary and salty foods, which signal the body to retain water to dilute them. Take it easy on large meals that are high in fat, too. Since fat takes a long time to digest, there’s more time for it to disrupt your system than if you aim for lighter, more frequent meals.

Say yes to a diet high in fiber, which will help to push toxins and wastes out of your gut. Eating yogurt and taking probiotics regularly also helps keep tummies happy; their active cultures and good bacteria help support healthy, balanced digestion. Exercise and drinking water will also help banish belly bloat, especially the kind caused by constipation.

Recurring digestive issues can sometimes by caused by an underlying medical condition, so if your symptoms persist even after modifying your eating habits, see your doctor.
