Midwife turned photographer Emma Jean Nolan posted a photo of a newborn baby Maori boy to her facebook page and the photo has since gone viral – for good reason. Emma captured the image of little Harper Hoani Spies at just an hour and a half old and still attached to his placenta with the umbilical cord spelling out the word ‘love’ to honour the link between the newborn and mother earth.

Emma told the The Mirror that  “I decided to take this image of Harper as I wanted to show what a physiological birth looks like as most people have never seen a baby still connected to their placenta.”

You’ve never seen a newborn picture like this before!
