Police Officer Found And Breastfed A Newborn Girl After She Was Abandonded By Her Birth Mother

A tiny newborn baby girl, with her umbilical cord still attached, was found in rural Colombia last week by a woman who was out picking oranges. Edinora Jiminez, who found the infant, originally thought the sounds she was hearing were a cat before realizing it was indeed a baby.

Edinora called the police who arrived on the scene to find the infant showing signs of hypotherma. Officer Luisa Fernanda Urrea was one of the officers to arrive on the scene, and quickly began to breastfeed the infant. A new mom herself, Urrea said that “because I’m a nursing mother, I know the needs a child may have, and gave nourishment to the girl.”
