Running In Disney’s Princess Half Marathon: Defying Gravity??

All my life I have wanted to be the MOM who could kick the soccer ball hard, volley a volley ball, swing and hit a home run, stretch and ommmm during a perfect yoga pose and dance like you have never seen at good Zumba class.  The challenge I have is the lack of time to make these come true for myself.  I wake up at 7:00 am, get to work and then look up to find it’s already 2:00.  I’ve got time for a quick drink and then rush out to pick up the kids from school or camp. Who has time after that (or before that) to excercise?  To be honest, as a child, sports did not come easy to me. I liked soccer, but never stuck with it.   For a short time in my 20’s, pre-kids, I did some running , swimming and biking but my dream was always to do a half marathon.  To prove to myself that I could do it!

Over the last few years, since having kids, something inside of me changed. I no longer want to do something just for me, I want to do it for them too. I want to do things to show them that anything you put your mind to, you can accomplish. I want to show them that dreams don’t just come true over night, but that hard work is how you can make them happen.  I want to show both of my children that if they keep their bodies healthy, they can achieve to be the best they can be.

I have tried to do more excercise over the last few years. I even signed up for the disney half marathong , but I had  to postpone it  due to an illness and a death in the family and I never was able to do it.

This is my chance… I will do it not just for my kids, but I will do it for me. To prove to myself that I matter and that I need to find time for me!  So while my family will be cheering me on as I start this journey, I will be training over the next few months to “defy my gravity”, that pulls me away from taking care of myself and only focusing on taking care of others.

I am so excited to share this experience with my friends  Audrey McClelland and Nadia Carriere they inspire me daily to stick with this. We may be states and oceans a part but they are the women who are going to be training with me over the next few months ( virtually) and we will all be at the starting line together with a little help from Minnie and Mickey!!
