Being a surrogate is truly one of the most selfless acts you can do, but being a surrogate at 54 years old is just amazing to me. But that’s exactly what Tracey Thompson did when her own daughter was unable to have children.
After Kelley and Aaron McKissack, of Wylie, Texas had suffered three miscarriages in three years, Kelley’s mom Tracey offered to be their surrogate so they could finally have the child they longed for.
Kelley told TODAY “the doctor told me that if I was going to go ahead with surrogacy, I needed someone I trusted — like my mom.” Of course a pregnancy at 54 is considered high risk, but doctors told the mother and daughter that as long as the surrogate was healthy and monitored that it could be done safely.
Tracey also told TODAY that she completely understood her daughter’s daily calls to ensure her mother was being healthy and taking her vitamins, saying “this was her way of being involved. Since I was carrying her baby, we were both overly cautious.”
