Maternal instinct really does know no bounds! A dog in Alberta is making headlines after the kennel she was staying in noticed that she managed to sneak out of her cage one night to get as close as possible to two rescue puppies who were brought in earlier in the day.
Maggie is an adult dog who was recently adopted. She was being boarded by her owners at the kennel for just over a week when the rescue puppies were brought in. Having had her own litter taken away about 2 weeks earlier, Maggie just really needed to see those puppies!
The owner of the kennel, Sandy Aldred told CBC news that she and her family had gotten all the animals settled for the night and went out for dinner. At dinner she used her cell phone to check the surveillance cameras to make sure everything was ok, and that’s when she noticed Maggie was out of her cage.
Sandy said that Maggie nudged the water dish that’s built in to the kennel door to the side so she could slide through to see the puppies.
“We watched her on the cameras and she went straight around and she found their room. She paid them a lot of attention and you could see her little tail wagging. And she’d do the little bow down to them and poke them through the chainlink gate of their room. She just decided that was where she was going to stay until we came to get her,” Aldred said.
“It was really sweet. She just had to be with those puppies.”
