With all the craziness in the world it is great to hear stories like this! This New Hampshire police officer who went out of his way to help a struggling mom.
Officer Michael Kotsonis showed up to investigate a shoplifting case at the Portsmouth grocery store when a surveillance camera caught a woman stealing some groceries. The officer who is a 19-year veteran on the force, found the woman, but he realized she was a struggling mom who’d taken some Crisco and vanilla frosting so she could make her daughter a birthday cake he wanted to help.
Michael told Fox 25 that while it is never ok, to stealing anything, he’s simply “not going to take away a kid’s birthday cake.”
The officer also explains that he didn’t do this for the attention. It was an impressed store employee who shared it with the media, and when asked about it, Michael said that officers do kind things for people all the time, it’s just part of the job. He adds, “What you do when no one is looking, that’s the character of someone.”
What a sweet and thoughtful officer!
