Sarah Ray had just finished exchanging wedding vows with her new husband Paul when they were en route to their reception venue. While on their way Sarah and Paul, both paramedics, learned that Sarah’s father and grandparents were involved in a car accident just 2 miles from the church. The newlyweds promptly decided to head to the scene of the accident to see if they could help instead of continuing on to their wedding reception. Sarah’s mom captured this picture of her daughter at the scene of the accident, still in her wedding dress, and it was posted to the Firefighters Worldwide Facebook page.
The picture is accompanied by the caption that read ‘How dedicated are you to your job? Sarah Ray, Paramedic with Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services, was photographed on her wedding night working the wreck of one of her wedding guests. Now that’s dedication…she stopped to assist on the way from the wedding to the reception! Thank you, Sarah, for loving what you do!’
Sarah told her local Channel 5 news that “Anybody in the EMS field would’ve done the same thing. I don’t know if what I did was special but I was in a wedding dress.”
According to the family a car ran a red light and slammed in to the vehicle that was carrying Sarah’s father and grandparents. She said “My family comes in from out of town and this had to happened,” Ray said. “I was scared on the way there.” Once Sarah and Paul heard about the accident they knew they had to get there, not just because it involved family members, but because they felt it was their duty to help.
Sarah’s mom, Marcy Martin, says the picture perfectly represents her daughter saying “I love this photo because it shows her character and accentuates her beauty.”
Sarah’s grandparents are back home and recovering from the accident, and Sarah insists that she was just doing her job. Well done Sarah!
