Villa del Palmar At The Islands Of Loreto; The Perfect Family Getaway
Finding an affordable trip that doesn’t take too long to get to and or break the bank is like searching for a needle in a haystack! I was recently invited ( hosted) to the incredible, luxurious Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto for an amazing four-day tour of the Mexico hotel and its beautiful surroundings, a United Nations Heritage Site .
What I loved most is that it is a two-hour flight south of Los Angeles. The town is also the site of Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó, one of the earliest successful Spanish missions.
Behind The Scenes of Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto
Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto, which opened about three years ago, is nestled within the Danzante Bay of the Sea of Cortés. It overlooks the sparkling sapphire of a wonder that legendary marine explorer Jacques Cousteau once christened the “Aquarium of the World.” Let me tell you they are not joking! I have never seen so many amazing Dolphins and Sea Creatures!
The resort is on an approximately 4,500-acre plot of protected land, which will soon include an 18-hole golf course ( they hope by November 2014). It is eco-friendly and the resort also houses their own seawater purification system, converts their beautiful sunny days into energy via rooftop solar panels, and implements a grey water recycling program.
Our group once we got to the hotel (which was a 30 min drive from the airport) was greeted with margaritas and a six-course lunch at Danzante Restaurant where we enjoyed Fresh Pizzas, Guacamole, Ceviche and the yummiest drinks.
Then we finally had a chance to check out our gorgeous one-bedroom suites— 1,300 square feet with two bathrooms ( a jacuzzi in the master bedroom), a kitchen, laundry and dryer, a living room and a balcony and the most amazing coastal view. Actually, every room in the resort enjoys views of Danzante Bay or the regal sierras.
Adventures Begin: Exploring Loreto and Its Beautiful, Magical Islands!
We were spoiled as we were given the opportunity to go island-hopping on the resorts boat to Isla Carmen with our knowledgeable tour guide, Carlos ( who is so friendly and makes you smile and laugh with his jokes). As we zoomed through the coast and reefs ( yes, I was very nervous about this) Carlos shared stories of the land and its marine life. He showed us big island mountains that looked like the birds had pooped on them, but actually it was salt deposits 🙂
Before I knew it, on of my life long dreams came true as a group of dolphins surrounded us and put on a beautiful show!
When we arrived at Isla Carmen, we munched on yummy sandwiches on the beach and were given a change to snorkel in the clear blue waters. I am petrified of snorkeling and even I did it! I met a few crabs along the way!!
Then we jumped back into the boat and headed north to Loreto were not only did we come across hundreds.. I mean hundreds of dolphins—but I nearly had a heart attack as we saw three baby whale sharks. There as a moment that I just closed my eyes and said… I can’t believe I am here.. It was surreal to say the least!
Once we got to Loreto we were able to explore the mission and the cute shops. Then Carlos surprised us with taking us to a local eatery where we are the most amazing fresh chocolate clams at a local seafood spot (one thing we learned Clams are still alive when they are not cooked).
We took a bus back to the resort and enjoyed an incredible evening under the stars!
THE Food, The Drinks!
The resort offers three eateries: Danzante Restaurant is the fine dining option then they have a buffet-style Market Restaurant, and Casa Mia.
This was some of the most amazing food, I have had at a resort. The drinks were flowing and had the right spike to them… I am super picky about food tasting good and being good quality and this surpassed any expectations.
Gluten-free, vegan, Vegetarian the resort is incredibly accommodating and will cater to your needs. I don’t eat Gluten and at every meal there were plenty of options and some GF rolls too:).
On Saturday we went on a beautiful morning hike that got us to the most amazing 360-degree view from the ranges to the coast. After that we went and enjoyed a day at the spa and the pool!
The resort has a 5 star spa that offers soem amazing treats below! I was in love with the cold pools!
The resort also offers plenty of options such as clear-bottom kayaking, stand-up paddling, snorkeling, clam digging lessons and more. Here are is the Official Resort Site Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loret and more about Groupon Getaways here Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto
