Our family absolutely loves Halloween not only because my kids get to pig out on candy (it only happens once a year, so why not?) but we also get to meet and spend a little time with our neighbors. I’ll admit that I live in a part of the country where it’s very rare that you see kids playing on our neighborhood streets or any of our neighbors for that matter. It is what it is, but we try to make the most out of it.

Either way, when it comes to Halloween night, we make an extra effort to say hi to everyone, introduce ourselves to new faces and at least do a little small talk with our neighbors. So would I go “neighborhood hopping” to allow my kids to trick-or-treat elsewhere? Probably not, unless that neighborhood had crazy good house decorations to check out.

Yet for some parents they do go neighborhood hopping with their kids, but for a totally different reason – to get better candy. I mean, is that a bad thing? It depends on who you ask, but I was recently very surprised when I came across a Dear Prudence Letter from a writer that complained about kids from less fortunate areas knocking on her door during Halloween. Check it out below.

I mean, does this woman have a legitimate reason to be upset? Sheesh. It’s only candy people! Plus, if you don’t want kids coming over, simply turn off the lights. Thank goodness Prudie had a great answer for her:
