Stefani Tatavitto and Chrystal Klein have been best friends since they met about 5 years ago. The two women, both 23, share a bond that many other friends can’t say they’ve ever shared with another girlfriend – the women breastfeed each others kids when they babysit for each other.
Chrystal reveals that the arrangement came about when her daughter, Ariana, was 10 months old. Stefani watches Chrystal’s two children on Thursdays and Fridays and Chrystal wanted to ensure that she would breastfeed Ariana while she was in her care. Chrystal then returns the favor when she babysits Stefani’s son, nursing him as well.
Stefani says it’s more convenient for her to leave her son with someone who can nurse him since he doesn’t like to take a cup or a bottle, and that it makes him feel safer and more secure.
Both women are perfectly fine with their arrangement and says that it works for them. “I don’t think it’s shocking to nurse another woman’s child — breastfeeding is natural,” Tatavitto said. “You drink breast milk from animals, it’s not that weird to drink breast milk from another human.”
Chrystal agrees and says that their arrangement simply takes the pressure off her, telling the New York Post “Because of Stefani wet nursing, I don’t need to pump milk for my daughter or worry about her not having any milk,” she said. “I would say there are no drawbacks. I only see positive from this.”
