Oh, boy, here we go again. Just when you think we are making progress in our word, another story comes along to make me doubt everything. Stories like this affect me especially because I am the mother of three — count `em, three! — daughters and I worry constantly about instilling a proper sense of confidence, body image, and positive self-worth on them.
It’s not easy and although it’s tempting to think that we feminists are “overthinking” things or making a big deal out of nothing, it’s stories like this that reminds us we have a long ways to go. Because girls around the world are judged, abused and mistreated, based on how men view them sexually. It’s disgusting and it needs to stop now.
See how one 12-year-old was shamed for her skirt at a chess tournament.
