It never ceases to amaze me when I hear stories about teachers who have sex – or sexual contact – with their students, especially when the person is a woman. I just don’t get it. I can’t imagine finding a teenage boy attractive. And, even if an adult did, it’s inconceivable to me that your brain wouldn’t tell you that they’re off limits, if only because you’d get in a lot of trouble if you were caught.
But apparently one North Carolina math teacher allegedly didn’t get that memo. Back in the summer Erin McAuliffe found herself in an embarrassing position. Not only did she lose her job at Rocky Mount Preparatory School, she did so in a very public way. Her face was blasted across TV screens and on news outlets around the world because she was arrested for allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with three students who attended her school – two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old.
What’s frustrating about the situation is that, as always, many readers who commented on the story focused on her looks rather than what she had done. But there were still some local residents who were concerned by her actions.
