One of the things that I really don’t understand is why parents – and mothers in particular – don’t have enough maternity leave to be with their children after they are born. You hear so many stories of mothers having to make the difficult decision of leaving their children with childcare providers only 4 to 6 weeks postpartum. No one wants to leave their precious newborn with a babysitter while having to go to work for eight hours a day, yet that’s what many parents have to face these days.
And for a couple from New Jersey, their holiday season was anything but festive when they had to make the most difficult decision of their lives. Nicole Nicastro left her 3-month-old baby with a babysitter to go to work last week only for this accident to happen later in the afternoon.
This is absolutely heartbreaking.
