Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston’s son Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston
“Bristol and Levi have picked a name that recalls the rollercoaster ride of their recent experiences…” America’s most famous high-school couple, Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston, named their baby boy Tripp Easton Mitchell. Not surprisingly, Tripp is a one-syllable “T-name” like the names Sarah and Todd Palin selected for Bristol’s brothers, Track and Trig. But I don’t buy the idea that Sarah picked the name. Here are two clues that Bristol and Levi were in the driver’s seat: 1. Tripp is a cool name. (It suggests traveling or daydreaming—with the help of recreational drugs.) Track and Trig, by contrast, are clunky. 2. The second P in Tripp complicates the spelling, but adds a new element. (By comparison, Bristol’s brothers weren’t named Trakk and Trigg.) To their credit, Bristol and Levi have picked a name that recalls the rollercoaster ride of their recent experiences: • The shock of publicly announcing their pregnancy just a short time after America learned of their existence; • The excitement of being featured on-stage at the Republican National Convention; • The calamity of learning Levi’s mother was involved in a drug bust; • And the thrill of selling their baby’s photos for a reported $300,000. What a trip! In summary, Tripp is a cool name that’s sure to cause spelling problems. My verdict: One thumb up! Bruce Lansky is North America’s #1 author of baby name books. His books have sold over 11 million copies. His latest name book is 5-Star Baby Name Advisor.
