First Communions are a rite of passage for most young Catholic children. It’s a time where they truly get to wear their ‘Sunday Best’ for a ceremony that will see them receive the Eucharist for the first time.
It’s a big deal for many families and there is a lot of time spend finding the perfect Communion outfit. And anyone who has ever shopped with a child who has a stronger idea of their own fashion knows that sometimes those two things don’t mix: when you have to get a very specific look for a very important event and when your pre-teen wants to express their own personal style.
That’s why when you find the perfect outfit, you go with it. and that’s what Chris Mansell’s daughter did. Cady was so thrilled when she found the perfect white suit to wear to her own First Communion.
Unfortunately when her school caught wind that the 9 year old was planning to wear the suit, they quickly uninvited the child from the ceremony telling her she would be violating the dress code if she wore pants.
Yes… the 9-year-old child was uninvited to her Communion. Even though the outfit would be totally suitable for another kid. It’s white, it’s respectful, and yet…
What would you do?
