Celine Dion experienced more sadness today. Her brother, Daniel Dion, passed away early this morning. Daniel, 59, had cancer of the throat, tongue and brain. The tragic news comes just two days after the death of Dion’s husband, René Angélil, 73, following his own lengthy battle with cancer.
Daniel was one of Celine’s 13 siblings. Their sister Claudette told Le Journal de Montréal that he was surrounded by family and loved ones, including their mother, during his recent treatment in Montreal as well as in his final hours.
Claudette had expressed concern earlier this week, that Daniel wouldn’t live much longer, saying it was only a matter of days or hours.
“He was ready and he no longer suffers,” Claudette said today. “It was serene.”
Daniel leaves behind two daughters, Valérie and Marie-Michelle, two grandchildren, his mother, and 12 siblings, according to People.
