While I’m all for keeping my children as safe as possible, this is an issue that I’m sure is going to stir a lot of controversy for parents all across our country.
New reports say that a California bill aimed at forcing parents to vaccinate their children has been signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.
Bill SB277, which saw a 25-10 victory in the state senate and cleared the state assembly 46-30, prohibits parents from not vaccinating kids for religious or philosophic beliefs.
“The science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases,” Brown said in an announcement posted online.
According to NBC News, the new legislation follows an outbreak of measles that started at Disneyland and sickened 147 people in the U.S. and Mexico. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and California state health officials said pockets of people philosophically opposed to vaccines were helping measles cases imported from other countries take hold and spread.
