Dove Blasted as Racist for Ad Showing a Black Model Turning Into a White Woman

One of the biggest problems in this world is that people don’t listen to each other. We talk to each other or past each other. But we don’t listen. We make assumptions. We’d work through a lot of controversies with more progress if we took the time to see things from another person or culture’s experience.

The latest controversy surrounding a Dove ad that has been branded racist is a classic example. You don’t even have to have a diverse marketing team to see that this would be a problem. A casual knowledge of history is enough. Similarly many people became infuriated without seeing the whole ad, which sheds a little light on the message the company was trying to convey.
