Well here’s a headline I’m sure you didn’t think you’d ever read online (but then again…..): a Maryland bride presented her Christian pastor father a “certificate of purity” to make sure she remained a virgin on her wedding day.
But wait, here’s where things get a little odd: the certificate was signed by a gynecologist on her wedding day to prove that she was still indeed a virgin.
Yikes. Invasive much?
The document was signed by both Brelyn Bowman, who is in her twenties, and her gynecologist, who appears to have conducted tests to check whether she is a virgin.
Brelyn faced criticism online, with many finding it strange that she chose to share such intimate details about her sex life with her father.
“Dancing with my first love,” she wrote in a post that got nearly 3,000 likes. “I was able to present a certificate of purity to him signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact. Also, the covenant he gave me when I was 13. When you honor God, your life will automatically honor others!”
What’s more, the purity certificate seems to be an extension of the “purity ball” trend, in which fathers and daughters attend dances where daughters pledge to stay virgins until marriage.
Honestly, I can’t judge Brelyn for doing this, because this is her life, her wedding, and her business. But to announce it to the world? Ugh, no. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with remaining a virgin until marriage, but it’s also odd to tell your parents about your sexy life and then publicize it on the internet. Plus, making a certificate about it? Yikes. Either way, I still wish Brelyn all the best.
