It's improving classroom behavior, too.
Let’s face it: kids are not spending as much time outdoors these days as they should be. I can drive around my neighborhood on a glorious sunny day in the middle of a Saturday afternoon and I won’t even pass by one kid outside playing. As sad as it is, we’re either shuffling our kids to their scheduled appointments and activities or allowing them to sit home in front of their iPads and Xbox consoles without realizing they are spending their entire childhood indoors.
To make matters worse, we’re also feeding them more junk food, sugar and snacks than ever before. That’s why one school in Scotland wants to make a change by getting their students to run a mile every day to not only help curb the growing obesity rate in the country, but by getting kids outside, too.
The ‘daily mile’ (which I think is a fantastic idea, BTW) is said to aid concentration as well as provide physical fitness – and other schools in the U.K. are taking notice.
