The majority of parents drop their children off at school, attend an assembly or concert once in a while, and maybe volunteer on a field trip. There seem to be a few handfuls of parents who volunteer their time a little more regularly with their children’s school such as helping with the parent council, or monitoring lunch hour, or organizing fundraiser and pizza lunches.
Did it ever occur to you that perhaps there is a parent at the school who may volunteer – even on rare occasion – that has a criminal background?
Did you know that school boards run criminal background checks on any parent volunteers? Sure, maybe a parent has done some time for small minor crimes… but manslaughter?
Should a convicted criminal be allowed to volunteer at your child’s school?
