At the risk of sounding totally ancient, when I was a kid our video game choices felt really basic, at least initially. We were a Coleco family, playing a lot of Donkey Kong, Smurfs, and Burger Time…if memory serves me correctly. Later we moved on to the early days of Nintendo with Super Mario Brothers, Tetris, Legend of Zelda, and whatnot. But at no point do I remember being placed in a position of power to give Smurfette or Princess Peach a plastic surgery makeover, shaping, nipping and tucking as I saw fit. The whole idea would have felt absurd. But now we’re in 2017 and those are exactly the sort of games kids are being offered, like Princess Plastic Surgery.
