Mom’s Social Post Asks Everyone to Judge Her Son’s Illness Less and Try to Understand More

Dorrie Nuttall’s 8-year-old son Luke was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was just two years old. Nuttall needs to check Luke’s blood sugar levels between 8-10 times a day, and the they also have a service dog named Jedi who helps monitor Luke’s blood sugar levels.

Nuttall understands that those who aren’t familiar with Type 1 Diabetes might know little about the disease or have many misconceptions about it, but in a recent open letter she posted to Facebook, she simply asks that people have a bit more compassion and empathy when talking about things you know little about.
