New Study Shows Dangers of Marijuana Use While Pregnant and Breastfeeding

Marijuana is becoming more and more mainstream, as more and more states are legalizing it’s use.

However, despite it being legal for some and despite it’s ability to help relieve things like nausea and anxiety that doesn’t mean it’s safe for women to use while pregnant or breastfeeding.

A new study has just been released illustrating the risks expectant and new mothers take when they use the drug.

While most expectant moms stay away from alcohol and make a concerted effort to eat well and exercise while pregnant, a surprising number of these women are partaking in the use of marijuana.

According to ABC News, data collected in the Annals of Internal Medicine shows that  “14 percent of pregnant women aged 12 to 17 reported using the drug in the past month, compared to just 6 percent of their non-pregnant peers, according to data from 410,000 women between the ages of 12 and 44 collected by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health between 2002 and 2015.”

So, not only are those high numbers, according to the study, the age populations are a growing concern as well.
