What a tragic story! One mom wanted to bring a little joy and laughter in her home by adopting a dog, but little did she know how the pet would change everyone’s lives and ultimately end hers. Mother-of-two Suzanne Story was mauled to death by a pit bull she adopted only one week ago. The dog was allegedly “good with children” but somehow attacked and killed her on Wednesday.

According to ABC 13 News, Story, of North Carolina, the pit bull’s previous owners said the dog was good with children and well behaved and gave it to the Story family for free. The dog attacked Story when she was cleaning his crate.

“I think they had a problem with the dog and didn’t know how to handle it, and they were just trying to get rid of it, and they did,” the mother’s stepfather told the station WVEC. “Found somebody that would take it, and ended up with a death.”

He added, “Brought the dog down here, and said that the dog was gentle, it was good with people, good with children, it had never attacked any person. Why a dog would attack her, I mean, is beyond me, but it had to have been the dog, not her.”

Animal control officers took the dog into custody and that she would be put down Thursday.
