Sandra Bullock Reveals How Her Son Louis Forced Her To ‘Get Her Sh*t Together’!

Motherhood really does change us, whether we want to admit it or not, and sometimes it changes us for the better, and sometimes not. Sandra Bullock opened up to Glamour Magazine about how her life changed when she adopted her now 5 year old son Louis, and how being a mother and a person responsible for another forced her to get her stuff together!

In the magazine Sandra is interviewed by her ‘Our Brand Is Crisis’ costar Zoe Kazan and she’s asked about being a parent in Hollywood, and how her divorce affected her. When asked about getting in to the acting business as an adult after going to college she says ‘Yeah. Well, I did some stupid things in college. Fact that I didn’t wind up in jail: miracle. Miracle! So I’m grateful for that. But, you know, I don’t feel like I was an adult till about five years ago.’  I literally went, “I know who I am.” Not completely. But about two years ago all the puzzle pieces came together. I went, “This is who I like. This is who I am.”

When asked if she finally felt that she knew who she was because she was a mother now she replied ‘ Motherhood and divorce—and not just divorce but the onslaught. Again, I let it affect me. I heard it all. And I had to step back and go, “I have the greatest gift in little Louis, and I’m gonna let him see the woman I want him to know.” So a child forces you to get your sh-t together. In the best way.’

I think that’s a very telling statement. As mothers there’s often times that we feel like we need to fall apart when something awful happens, but we realize that we have children that we have to set an example for and be a parent to, and they force us to, as Sandra said, get our sh*t together.

What do you think about Sandra’s statements? Did having kids force you to get your sh*t together too?
