Subway Baby-on-Board Buttons are Now Available for Pregnant People

I’ll never forget the first trip I took while sporting a baby bump. My husband and I were in the Bahamas and I was so excited to be finally looking like a pregnant lady instead of someone who just ate a giant lunch.

During our day exploring, however, we were running all over in the hot tropical sun and by the end of the day, I was pretty tired. As we headed back to the tour bus, we were last in line when suddenly, an adult man sprinted past me, elbowing me on the way so he could sit in the very last possible seat open. I stood the whole way back to our resort with my belly literally in his face and although I was of course fine to stand, the whole thing struck me as bizarre. Maybe he needed that seat more than I did (although the sprinting and elbowing skills certainly seemed to prove he was fine physically?) or maybe he was just rude, but either way, the experience was one of many in my life as a mom when I realized that not everyone was raised the way I was, which is to give up your seat to pregnant ladies, moms with small kids, the elderly, and pretty much anyone besides you if you can stand your ass up.

But now, New York has had enough of rude subway riders and they’re implementing a new program to try to help pregnant commuters.
