If you’re not around the Texas area, the devastation of Hurricane Harvey can be hard to grasp. I have to admit that up in Michigan, it’s difficult to even imagine the destruction the storm has had. Despite the fact that it’s been called the most costly natural disasters ever to hit the U.S., many people are still in denial about how bad it really is there.
Some people don’t understand how unprepared the state was to deal with such an unprecedented disaster and how truly fast the flooding happened. In some areas, the flash flood from the rain literally took minutes before people were stranded in cars, at work, or at their homes. One minute, they were fine and the next, they were standing up to their knees in water.
And just like any time there is an emergency, it’s the everyday people around the disaster that are making the biggest difference. And thanks to the magic of social media, they are heroes who will not remain hidden.
