In Netflix’s popular yet controversial show, 13 Reasons Why, the main character gives 13 reasons why she wants to die. The drama-mystery web television series is based on the 2007 novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. The series revolves around a high school student, Clay Jensen, and his friend, Hannah Baker, who committed suicide after suffering a series of demoralizing circumstances, brought on by select individuals at her school. A box of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah before her suicide details thirteen reasons why she ended her life.
But according to these students from Oxford High School in Michigan, it doesn’t have to be this way. In fact, their new project is giving students 13 reasons why they should thank someone for pulling them out of their blues rather than blaming them for it. And quite honestly, this is the best thing I’ve seen all week long.
Everyone needs a reason why.
