I have lived in Florida for almost my entire life. With the exception of a few travel years here and there, I can call myself a true, tried and tested Floridian. My family have seen and been through it all: tropical storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and the occasional alligator creeping up in our backyard. Nothing scares us.
But at the same time, I’m also a mom. And if local government officials are telling me to evacuate ahead of a Hurricane 5 storm, you can bet your bottom dollar that I am getting the heck out. My family is, and will always be, my number one priority.
That’s why so many people are slamming this Florida mother for refusing to evacuate with her five children even though Hurricane Irma is coming straight for her.
Here’s what she has to say.
