When you think of a playground or basketball court, you think of children playing and laughing without a care in the world. Just having fun.

You don’t imagine bullets being fired. Twelve-year-old Kanari Gentry Bowers was playing basketball with a few classmates at an elementary school court in West Englewood, Chicago, when the sound of gunfire sent them running.
