I have both a daughter and a son and when ever they play with each other’s toys, it’s like they are gender blind. It actually makes my heart skip and sing too as they don’t’ care if they are playing with Shopkins, American Dolls, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: they manage to role play and spend time together regardless of what toys they are playing with. There’s no toy division or “my toys,” and “his toys.” They simply play with whatever is available without making a big fuss about it.
In other words, yes, my son plays with Tsum Trums. And my daughter plays with Batman and Spiderman and sometimes they even have movie night at Barbie’s house. It’s no big deal, right? Well, apparently for some people out there it is. That’s because after one thoughtful uncle bought his nephew an unexpected gift, the Internet had A LOT to say about it. And as you can imagine, a lot of it wasn’t pretty.
