Victoria Beckham says that pregnancy help cure her acne but some of us are not so lucky. Even Britney Spears battled acne while she was pregnant.  “Most women go through multiple skin changes during and after pregnancy due to hormonal changes. Stress as usual is also a culprit. Stress weakens the body’s natural fighting ability against outside bacteria on the skin ,” says Dr. Simon Ourian of The Epione Center in Beverly Hills.
Some women find their skin stays clear until they stop nursing, only to explode with the return of their periods. The good news is that for many women the acne disappears within a few months when their hormones get back to normal.

So what can you do while you’re waiting for your hormones to calm down?
•Wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser. Don’t over-scrub because this can cause more acne and spread bacteria.
•    Exfoliate daily with an over-the-counter lotion containing glycolic or salicylic acid. “This will open up some of the blocked pores,” he adds.
•    Zap pimples with  over-the-counter preparation with Benzoyl Peroxide or a salicylic acid wash will dry up pimples and inhibit the growth of bacteria that can cause new ones to form,” points out Dr.Ourian .
•    Talk to your doctor. There are a variety of prescription options for clearing up pimples, and many of them are okay to use even if you’re breastfeeding including Clindamycin, topical eerythromycin, Azelaic
•    Avoid Accutane which is labeled a Class X drug by the FDA, Dr Ourian advises pregnant women to swear off anything in the retinoid family, including topical creams and gels like Retin-A, Differin, and Tazorac. “The amounts of topical drugs that are absorbed are very small. Nevertheless, problems in the fetus have been reported with use of Retin-A early in pregnancy.

So what can you do maintain a clear complexion while you’re expecting? Proactiv is a great option. The Renewing Cleanser has a great exfoliating component, the Repair lotion contains Benzoyl Peroxide and the toner contains Salicylic Acid. These 3 steps will have your skin acne free in less than a month. You’ll see results in less than a week!

Studies have shown that taking a larger dose (up to 4,000 micrograms) at least one month before and during the first trimester may be beneficial for those women, but check with your doctor first..:^:
