“I Was Given the Gift of Falling”
She had thoughts of displaced refugees, poverty, and “the irony of the mile-long dizzying aisles of food” in the grocery store in her thoughts until she almost tripped on a woman.
“You were sitting on the white glossy tile floor. Everything smelled of plastic. You were a beautiful mom with blonde long hair, blue eyes and designer jeans.”
“’I can’t believe this. I can’t breathe,’ the woman told Amy. ‘I think I’m having a panic attack.'”
People stood by the woman, not sure how to help her.
Even though she was surrounded by people, the woman obviously felt alone. Amy knelt down on the ground and asked to hold her hand.
Amy talked to the woman, calming her down by asking her what the last thing she did that made her feel good. The two started talking, and even laughed – the onlookers dispersed.
